There are pros and cons when it comes to running a blog or a personal website, the pros out weight the cons but there are some cons to consider before you get your website up and running. Right now I run 2 blogs and there are some things I wish I knew before starting a blog.
Before I start I want to say is that getting your own website is a great ideal to have and whatever business you run or whatever brand you are trying to build, having that website is an asset you should invest in. It’s not easy and it’s very hard work:
People think that you just write a blog post then Google ranks it and then you make money. The truth is that most blog post takes 9 to 10 months before google ranks them and it may take that long before you get good traffic to your site. Running a website is hard work and you have to put in time to make it work. Setting up WordPress is not hard but if never did it before, this can take some time to learn.
You have to learn something brand new with WordPress and if you mess with the code of WordPress or CSS you can destroy your site. If you write little content you’re the site like 200 words blog post, that will not get ranked. So as you can see that there is a lot of things that can work against you.
The cost:
Even though the cost of running a website is very low, it still cost money. the first thing that is the cost of your domain name which for the most part cost 10 dollars to 15 dollars and you must renew your domain once per year and that cost 15 dollars per year. It’s cheap but it does cost money.
Next you may want to get a premium theme so it can look nice, those cost around 40 dollars to 69 dollars. Next you want to back up your site just in case something happens to your site or it goes down and that may cost 40 bucks per year. Next is getting an email auto responders so you collect leads and email them.

This is just some of the cost of running a website not including hiring a writer, running ads, buying plugins , getting tools to run to run the blog and buying pics for your site.
The content:
In order your website to get traffic, you must produce content from the site. What won’t tell you that the content you produce must be good for people to read and good for the search engines and that is the hard part. You have to go through google to get your content ranked which google does updates to the search engines, reduce sites traffic, increase traffic and they are the gate keeper of traffic. You write content to please the search engines and people which is nothing wrong with that and it should be that way.
The best and helpful content should be ranked high than others but you still have to please Google which is not easy. You can write your best blog post and it’s 3000 words long but if Google doesn’t like it than it won’t get traffic. Even if google likes the content, if the reader doesn’t than people will quickly leave your site for good which hurt your ranking. Plus it takes a long time to get ranked by google. It may take 9 to 10 months to rank your post and that’s if the post is good.
The bottom Line:
Here the bottom line, I didn’t go over the pro’s of having a blog or website cause I have many post on this site taking getting a website up and running but there are some con’s as well. Whatever you post on your blog will be there forever online. There are ongoing cost to running a blog, there is the search engines you have to please to get ranked and once you get ranked you have to please people which is not a bad thing but is something you have to get though.
I say getting website is a very good thing to have and the cost is very low and if you produce good and helpful content, your site will get views. A website can make you nothing or make you tons of money, it’s on how hard you work on it.
