There are a lot of things that I have learned over time that I wish I knew when I was 18 years old. If I can go back in time I would tell myself these 5 tips so things would have been better for me. I plan to tell my son as he grows up the things that I didn’t know and these tips in this blog post will be things I will tell him.
If you are a young person, please read this post and learn what you can while you are still young. One day you will be older and if someone would have gotten with one at your age, I would have done some of these things. The one thing to keep in mind is that things that I had when I was 18 years old are different.
There are more things now that I had growing up and my son benefits from today than I did and that will get better as time goes by. So here are the 5 tips I would give myself if I was 18 again?
Invest as soon as I can:
I will talk my 18 self to invest in the stock market and other things ASAP. The sooner I invest in the stock market and buying dividend paying stocks the better and I can start the snowball effect ASAP. I would go get 2 jobs and invest into dividend paying stocks weekly.
That would be the first thing that I would do and please do your own research before buying any stocks on the stock market. Now that my son is 3 years old, I started buying him some dividend paying stocks so his snowball effect has started early for him.
My goal for him is to teach him about the stock market and to make $500 per month in dividends. That would be my goal if I were 18 again. There are many apps where you can invest like Robinhood and webull to buy stocks when you want too.
Start an online business:
Yes one of the best things that you can do is to start an online business from home and yes it can be done for free. What I would do is start 2 or 3 YouTube channels and back then when I was 18 I was heavy into playing video games. So one of mine YouTube channel would a video game channel.
I would also start this blog thexking.com back then and by this time I would be getting a lot of traffic. I would focus on building different online business from home and when I was 18 I stayed at my moms place so I didn’t have many bills at all so I could invest more and buy things for the online business like web hosting. So if you are 18 reading this blog, I would start ab online business ASAP. You can make videos in your free time and working on your online business does not take that much time.
Start an offline business:
While building the online business, I would start an offline business. I would have started something like pressure washing or car washing business and start it small. Yes I would still work but build something on the side that is yours. Working is ok but If you start your own side business while 18 or still at home, you can build something and if it does not work that fine, you can try something else. I am not a tax expert but taxes seems to favor people that have a business and since running an online business does not take a lot of time, you can build something else.
Work as hard as you can:
You are young and you can work as long as you can. Some people have kids at home so they can’t work like they want to but you can. Work as many hours as you can and but sure to invest some of the money that you get. Save half and invest half of the money.
