Along my blogging journey I have made a ton of mistakes after starting this blog, www.thexking.com and www.rotogrip.org that I want to help the next person out when they start their blog avoid the things I did wrong and wasted my time with. You may not see these things yet but you will see them and I want you to be ready to handle them. I wasted a lot of time and money on things that didn’t help my blog. So I will tell you the 10 mistakes I made when starting a blog and mistakes when running a blog.
- Writing content from the start:
I did not take this blog seriously enough from the very start. I was only posting my YouTube videos and writing very small blog posts. I wish I didn’t do that and I wish I had posted very good content from the start and if posted a YouTube video, I would write least 1000 words with the video. I didn’t know that a blog can make you a lot of money and it’s so passive to run. As long as you have an internet connection you can make money. I spend about 2 hours per day sometimes less than that on the blog. So you can have a full time job, a family at home and still run a blog full time. So take your blog seriously from the start of your blog. If you want to start a blog today you need hosting and I use bluehost for my hosting company and you can click here to get started: click here
- Have content from the start to start posting on your blog:
When I first made the blog live I was working on theme of the blog, working the color and how it looked. I didn’t post any content on this blog until 3 months later so I wasted all that time doing other things but writing content. When getting hosting for your blog, you pay for the entire year upfront and once the year is up one must renew your hosting plan once per year. Well I should have written a blog post on day one of getting hosting and setting up the blog. I shouldn’t not worry about how it looks which is important but writing that first post is very important too. Waiting around to post anything on your blog is a wasting your time and money. from the start of the blog, you should have lots of content to post. So I wish I written content from day one.
- Create a posting schedule and stick to it:
One of Google ranking factors is how many new blog post this blog do. Google loves new content. Blogging is an online business that requires work written content. From the start I should have chosen a posting schedule, this blog would have been better. Right now I produce 3 post per week on this blog. All of that content has been time stamped to go live in the future. I have written 12 post in one week. So 3 post per week, I am done for the month. Which will leave me a month off from blogging or writing any content if I wanted too. Now I can work on something else with the free time that I have new to do something different and stick with your schedule. Do not stop whatever schedule you pick. Can be 2 post per week or 1 post per week or post every day, just pick something and stick with it cause the best bloggers in the world post on a schedule consistent. That what makes the money.
- The WordPress time stamp feature which is the best thing I love about WordPress:
The WordPress time stamp is one of the best thing about WordPress. You can run your blog when you are not there. You can take your post, give it a date in the future to go live. So if you are going on a trip and don’t have time to publish a post, you can time stamp it before you leave and then that post you will live while you are not there. I love this feature cause you can write a lot of posts and then time stamp them to go live later. Right now www.thexking.com has enough blog post to last for 3 months. Now having 3 months of blog post time stamped, now I have more free time. I can take off one month from blogging and be ok. This leave me with more time to do more YouTube, start another blog or start a business, so use this feature.
- Your blog is an asset:
Your blog can be ab asset. What is an asset? Am asset is something that produce income for you without doing much an anything. Your blog only needs for you to produce content for the blog. But you blog can make you money while you sleep. This asset you can build over time, in your free time that does not take a lot of time that you have. Meaning building a blog only takes part time work but it can bring it full time income plus the cost of running a blog is low, like 3 bucks per month and 10 bucks for the domain name.
The bottom Line:
Here the bottom line, use this link here to set up your blog. Then that day write your first blog post. Pick a schedule that works for you for posting content per week and stick with it. Write enough content to cover for one or 2 months, that way you have more free time to do other things like run another blog, build another business or YouTube.
