I have been running this blog and rotogrip.org for over 1 year now and I have learned a lot about how to make more time for my online business while spending time with family. Working from home becomes harder and harder over time when working a full time job. Your time is so limited due to family time, cleaning up your house, cooking, fixing up your home. In this post I will go over ways to save time, make more time and tools that you can use that will help out with time.
How to save time?
The best way to save time is to know your weekly schedule. If you work full time by now you should know what your day to day is like. What time do you work? What time is your breaks? When time you got off work? What are you going to do after work when you get home? Those are questions you should know, then you can start working in between those times.
Can you get up an hour early before work to get things done? That can be your first way to save time. If you can get up early, great then do that but if you can’t get up early, can you stay up late? Can you stay up till 1 or 2 in the morning then get up at 7 A.M. for work? It’s easier for me to stay up late cause everyone is sleep and I can’t get up early cause sometimes when my alarm goes off, that may wake everyone up and I don’t want those problems so yeah I work late.
If you can do both, that’s a double bonus but it’s up to you and just pick up. The next time savers is your job, is there anything you at work while you are on break? Most jobs you get two 15 mins break and a 30 min lunch or a 1 hour lunch. Is there something you can do during that time? On some days on my break I like to go to my car and shoot some YouTube videos. Those days where it’s busy but I can go to my car during my break and shoot a quick 5 min video then go back to work.
You spend most of your day at work so find ways to make time for your business. On other slow days I would write a blog post on my break on my phone. WordPress has an app where you can run your blog from your phone and write blog post and save your post as a draft if you don’t finish it. See people at my job, go to lunch and be on Facebook, YouTube, reading the news and looking at other people’s content. I write and create my own content during those times which is a better use of my time.
I produce 3 videos per work for my YouTube channel. At my job, the head boss allowed us to work from home once per day. So I work from home on Thursdays mainly so during the week, I am writing down all the videos I want to produce. When it’s time for my lunch break, I already have my videos written down to make so I can just start making videos fast. Once one is done, I can upload then shoot another right after. That is maximizing my time, I don’t want to be sitting there thinking about what I should talk about, I need to list out what I am going to do then do it.
On Friday nights I would sometimes drive for Uber for extra money but if I don’t drive, I would work on my blog and YouTube channel late at night. Right now I am building up an YouTube gaming channel. So on Friday nights, I do work on my blogs but I don’t work long and then play the game to produce content for my gaming channel. I would record my game play using mixer, then the next day upload that content to my video editing software, edit the video, then upload to YouTube.
The game channel is very very part time, but with 3 to 4 hours of game play to edit, I can produce 3 to 4 videos with one night of play. I know that my son goes to bed around 9:30 and my wife goes to bed around 11:00, so after they go to sleep so when I am working. With my game channel up, me playing the game is work but not really. The hard part is editing the videos but still does not take a long time.
I get home from work around 4:45 to 5:00 o’clock every day, my wife picks up my son from daycare then comes home. So I have 45 mins until they get home so anything that I can do quick I will do. Like shooting a video or editing a video all works. you can’t control things that happen out of your control. Things happen in life unexpectedly so quick that in mind.
Those are just some of the ways you can save time, make money online on the side and have a family at home. Two of the best online business you can build today is a blog and a YouTube channel. I make time to run 2 blogs and 2 YouTube channels. Blogging is a passive asset to set up and once you have your theme or layout of your blog, the only thing that you need is content.
The WordPress app is great tool to use cause you can write a blog post on the go. Instead my being on Facebook, write a blog post that will help people.
