When starting a new YouTube channel, you may have a lot of ideas to make videos about and you may have a ton of videos that you want to produce but overtime ideas comes slow and you may run out of ideas to make videos. I have been there and I have some tips to get up out of that video making block to making videos all the time.
Don’t box yourself in on the topic:
This means the topic you pick, don’t box yourself in just one topic. For example, if your channel is about fishing, you can make videos about fishing but you can also talk about all the equipment you use for fishing. You can talk about different boats for fishing, you can talk about how to clean and cook fish and different fish recipes that you have. The topic is about fishing but now you can talk about other things that fishing comes in contact with. Since fishing is seasonal, you can talk about new fishing equipment and do reviews, you can talk about different knifes that you use, you can even enter hunting since fishing is a form of hunting. You can have a playlist for fishing but also have a playlist for hunting. Now you have more videos you can make and since some hunting seasons are seasonal, you can write up you next batch of videos during the dead times. Fishing is a broad topic with different things you can talk about. You can do the same thing with your topic.
Pick a posting schedule for your videos:
One of the best thing that YouTube have is the function to schedule out your videos to a future date. So you can make video today and schedule that video out next week if you want to. How many videos will you post per week? I do 3 videos per week and I shoot 8 videos on Monday’s and schedule them during the week. So now I am ok with videos for 2 and a half weeks. You can do 2 videos per week and make 8 videos and then you are done for the month. This way you have more time to think about more videos ideas to make and you have more free time as well. Based on your free time you have, pick a schedule that fits you can you can handle. Right now I have 3 videos going out for the next 2 months. Now during this time, I write down on paper new ideas that come along over time. Writing down your videos will help also so you know what to do videos about.
Use the social media for help:
You can join groups that is related to your topic and see what people are talking about and see what are people asking questions about. I use a site called quora which people post questions on things they need help with. You can see theses questions and create videos about them. Since the people on quora can’t fins the answer, making a video will help and make sure that you post your video everywhere you can. I have a made a lot of videos based on questions I saw in my Facebook group. It’s also good to write down any thing that you see that can be in a video for YouTube.
Recap:
Don’t box yourself in with your topic. Make sure that topic is broad enough where you can talk about other things, use the fishing example above. Pick a posting schedule that works for you that you can keep up with. If you can only do 2 videos per week, that’s fine just keep doing that. I will do 8 video per week that way you have a month of content ready to be publish. Also use the YouTube time stamp feature where YouTube can publish your video with the date you picked. Use the internet and social media to see what people are talking about. See what questions people need help with and go make that video.
